This statue depicts Shakyamuni Buddha and is intricately carved from two-tone marble. The body of the Buddha is rendered in pure white marble, while the robe is sculpted from deep green marble, creating a striking contrast that blends solemnity with artistic elegance.
The Buddha is seated in the lotus position upon a lotus pedestal, with both legs crossed and hands placed in the meditation gesture (dhyāna mudrā) before the abdomen, symbolising inner tranquillity and enlightened wisdom.
This statue of Shakyamuni Buddha was also presented in 2009 as a national gift by Lingguang Temple in Beijing to the President of Sri Lanka.
