This sculpture represents the Medicine Buddha (Bhaiṣajyaguru), a classic figure in Buddhist iconography. It is carved from white marble, with contrasting details such as the robe rendered in reddish stone, creating a striking visual effect.
The Buddha is seated in the full lotus position, with both hands forming the gesture of meditation (dhyāna mudrā). In his left hand, he holds a medicine jar, symbolising nectar or healing elixirs, while his right hand rests gently upon his knee. His face bears a serene expression, with half-closed eyes conveying compassion and wisdom.
Beneath him is an exquisitely crafted lotus pedestal, a symbol of purity untouched by worldly defilements. The overlapping petals are intricately carved, reflecting exceptional craftsmanship.
